Advice and Tips for Choosing an Elopement Location

Reflect Your Personal Story

When it comes to picking the perfect spot for your elopement, choose a place that makes you feel good when you’re there. Whether it's the vibrant streets of New York City that remind you of your whirlwind romance or the tranquil beauty of upstate New York where you shared a memorable adventure, let the location be a reflection on your adventures together. It's not just about the scenery—it's about finding a place that echoes your style and vibe.

Consider the Light

For those magical shots that you'll treasure forever, the play of light and shadow cannot be overlooked. As someone who loves to capture the moodiness and depth of each moment, I recommend considering the time of day for your elopement. That golden hour glow can wrap you in an ethereal light, making your photos not just pictures, but stories told through shades and tones. It's all about enhancing the atmosphere of your day, making each photo a testament to the mood and emotion of the moment.

Privacy Matters

The intimate nature of an elopement means those raw, unguarded moments are front and center. To truly let those emotions flow, choose a spot that offers you privacy. There are countless hidden gems out there—secluded nooks in well-known parks or quiet, off-the-beaten-path locations. These places allow you to be yourselves, enveloped in each other's presence without the outside world intruding, ensuring your photos capture the essence of your bond.

Arriving at the Elopement Location

Saying vows under a huge Sycamore Tree

I arrived at the Park early to meet with the Groom and his friends. The anticipation was palpable and we took the long walk to where they planned to say their vows. We all took our places waiting for Adrienne to arrive. They picked a huge Sycamore tree to get married under with gorgeous sweeping views of the Hudson River. The weather was on our side as the Summer sun shined on us for the entire day. They wrote their own vows and had us all laughing and choking back tears at the same time.

Roaming the park creating portraits

Taking advantage of the nooks and crannies, open fields and forest

Adrienne + Matt picked Rockwood Hall Park for the diverse landscape and beauty that it offers. We spent an hour walking the trails and stopping where the light called to me. We laughed and told stories, made gorgeous images that showed their connection, and caught the most beautiful sunset I’ve seen in a long time. This year has brought a new way of celebrating love and as much as I love big weddings, these small elopements and micro-weddings have given me life! Being able to spend this much time with my couples, exploring and creating, has been a wonderful way to stretch my skills and look for new ways to document love.
